BACKGROUND
Gaston County was awarded a $48,723 grant from the 2019 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP). The federal Bureau of Justice Assistance provides State Criminal Alien Assistance Program grants to reimburse costs incurred by state or political subdivisions of a state, including counties, for the confinement of certain undocumented criminal aliens. The grant money will be used to upgrade the televisions in the jail pods as well as any construction related and disaster preparedness initiatives in the jail.
