BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT
Transfers accumulated funds from Fund Balance Appropriated Account to South Point Volunteer Fire Department.
BACKGROUND
On occasion, funds accumulate in fire district taxing accounts through the realization of past taxes being collected, property revaluation between budgets and account interest earned. This action will transfer such accumulated funds to South Point Volunteer Fire Department. Barry Joye was in attendance at the Gaston County Fire Advisory Board Meeting on 03/19/2020 to answer questions regarding South Point’s request for approval to ask the Commissioners to release $275,000.00 of their reserve funds to them. The funds will go towards building improvements (adding air compressor room on side of building away from the sleeping quarters and breathing air compressor) and equipment (Edraulics for E420, SCBA air compressor, smoke machine for their new training building and walkie-talkies. Discussion followed. Barry Wilson made a motion to recommend to the Commissioners that they release $275,000 of reserve funds to South Point VFD. Jeff Hovis seconded the motion. There was no further discussion or opposition. The vote was unanimous. The motion carried.
