BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Transferring accumulated funds from Fund Balance Appropriated Account to Union Road VFD, Inc.

BACKGROUND

On occasion funds accumulate in fire district taxing accounts through the realization of past taxes being collected, property revaluation between budgets and account interest earned.  This action will transfer such accumulated funds to Union Road VFD, Inc.  At the Fire Advisory Board meeting on December 5, 2019, Chief Craig Huffstetler submitted a request for Union Road Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., asking for approval to ask the Commissioners to release $35,882.49 of their reserve funds to them.  Union Road will use the reserve funds to purchase and install a new Blue Star 40kw natural gas powered generator for their station.  This purchase is necessary to have better capabilities to serve as an emergency shelter during times of disaster and to ensure continuous operation in times of power outages.  Grants to cover this purchase have previously been applied for and were denied.  Barry Wilson made a motion to recommend to the Commissioners that they release $35,882.49 reserve funds to Union Road VFD Inc.  Brian Weyeneth seconded the motion.  There was no further discussion or opposition.  The vote was unanimous (Chief Craig Huffstetler abstained from voting).  The motion carried.
