BACKGROUND

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Adult Corrections and Juvenile Justice-JCPC Level II Dispositional Alternatives approved funds for the expansion of Therapeutic Foster Care Treatment funds for Gaston County and other Western North Carolina counties in an effort to divert youth from higher levels of care or detention.  The Department has approved a total of $87,133 to be paid to Thompson Child and Family Focus for fiscal year 2019-2020.  Currently, there is a lack of therapeutic foster homes specifically dedicated towards supporting the DJJ youth of Gaston County which results in communitywide, systemic problems.  This funding is intended to bridge gaps and support programs that divert youth from becoming more involved in the juvenile justice system.  These therapeutic foster homes in Gaston County would help to do that.
