BACKGROUND
The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office requests that Jasper a nine (9) year old German Shepherd be declared as surplus and removed from Gaston County Sheriff’s Office inventory as per North Carolina General Statute 160A-266 (C). K-9 Jasper is failing to perform his duties as a member of the K-9 team in handler protection, and explosive detection, due to health issues. It is recommended that K-9 Jasper be retired at this point due to the safety of the K-9 and its handler.
