BACKGROUND

During recent meetings between representatives of the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education, there has been identified in excess of $200 million in capital needs for the school system.  The Board of Commissioners intends to call for a school bond referendum to meet as many of those needs as possible.  The Board also intends to call for a sales tax referendum to provide the additional revenues to meet those needs, rather than putting the entire burden on the property tax.
