BACKGROUND
The Gaston County Solid Waste Division utilizes the Renewable Energy Center to convert methane gas from the landfill into electricity that is sold to Duke Energy. The Renewable Energy Center utilizes 3 engines that are specially designed to operate on landfill gas. Replacement engines take a minimum of 16 weeks to ship. Gaston County Solid Waste is seeking to build a storage facility that will house a spare engine and provide a space to prepare the spare engine for potential service. This will allow the Renewable Energy Center to return to full output quickly should an engine stop working. Gaston County Public Works publicly advertised the project on August 9, 2020. On September 3rd at 2:00 pm bids were publicly opened with the following results:
