BACKGROUND

Gaston County was awarded the 2015 Joseph E. Hunt Distinguished Jurisdiction Award at the November, 2015 North Carolina Association of Assessing Officers Conference for the implementation of the Taxpayer Appeal Assistance Program during the County’s recent reappraisal project.  This appeal assistance program was the first of its kind in our state and many counties are planning to implement the same program in their next reappraisal.  This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement in tax administration and public service as a result of developing new technologies, processes or programs that continue to improve the assessment profession.  Gaston County was one of two counties in North Carolina to receive this award.
