BACKGROUND

The North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission administers the state's federal grants related to domestic violence victims’ services. VAWA grants require a 25% match. The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded the maximum funding amount of $126,898.03 or 75% of the total submitted budget of $169,197.38 to continue the Domestic Violence Unit, which includes salary and partial benefit funding for two Domestic Violence Deputies. The 25% cash match will be met through a portion of one Court Advocate’s salary and Deputies’ fringe benefits. The match is paid with Civil Service Processing Fees.
