BACKGROUND
Paid parking in the South Lot of the Gaston County Courthouse was first implemented in 2007 and remained in effect until it was discontinued through Resolution 2022-146, which became effective July 1, 2022. Later in 2022, Resolution 2022-199 established a system of reserved, permit-only spaces within the South Lot that individuals could lease at a rate of $100 per month.
The Ordinance was duly introduced at the Board of Commissioners’ Regular Meeting held on January 27, 2026, pursuant to G.S. 153A-123(b), and shall become effective upon its adoption.
POLICY IMPACT
The Ordinance modernizes and restructures the parking framework for County-owned properties by repealing legacy parking regulations, creating general parking regulations, and defining enforcement mechanisms. The Ordinance does not impose parking fees or determine which spaces are reserved, but rather sets up a clear and fair enforcement mechanism for any established parking policies. Per G.S. 153A-123(b), this ordinance must be introduced at one meeting and then voted on at a separate meeting.
