BACKGROUND

The Honorable Judge Robert Kirby, one of Gaston County’s longest serving and highly respected Judges, passed away on January 23, 2021.  A request was received to dedicate and to rename the 4th Floor Jury Assembly Room of the Gaston Courthouse as the Judge Robert Kirby Jury Assembly Room in remembrance of Judge Kirby, who was a Judge for “The People”.  This request has received the support of Senior Resident Superior Court Judge, Hon. Jesse B. Caldwell, III, fellow judges and court officials.

Approval of this Board Action authorizes staff to proceed with the implementation of this action, including the design and purchase of a bronze plaque, which is to be unveiled at a BOC Meeting in June or July and subsequently installed at the door of the Jury Assembly Room.
