BACKGROUND

The purpose of establishing a standalone Travel Policy is to ensure uniform and equitable guidelines are enacted for employee travel. This policy is intended to reflect Gaston County’s commitment to being good stewards of financial resources and to ensure opportunities for travel and training are available for all employees. Changes to the current travel policy have been made to update employee travel guidelines to give greater clarity to employees when making travel decisions based on best practices. Changes to the travel policy include specifying airlines available to employees, greater clarity related to flight upgrades, mileage reimbursement, travel advances, per diem and travel reimbursements. With these changes, each department, along with the Finance Department, will now be able to manage travel reservations and reimbursements more efficiently and effectively across the County.

POLICY IMPACT

This will impact the HR Personnel Policy and the Financial Policy.
