BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Increase State Grant Revenue by $25,000 and Appropriate $25,000 into the Teen Court Program.

BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council has been awarded $25,000 in discretionary funds from the Department of Public Safety to fund the Teen Traffic Court pilot project.  A 20% match of $5,000 is being provided by the Alliance for Children and Youth.  The specific target population for this pilot project is youth age 16-17 at the time of the driving offense and cannot be charged with the following:

                     Speed of more than 25 mph over the posted speed limit

                     Impaired driving (DWI)

                     Accident resulting in injuries

                     Youth has not been referred to the program previously for a driving offense
