BACKGROUND

North Carolina Statute 160A-266 (C) dictates the procedure for disposal of surplus property.  The Gaston County Police Department recently upgraded to the newer Taser 7 system.  A portion of our old Tasers were used for a trade-in credit and shipped back to Axon.

The remaining inventory has no trade-in credit, nor has any use or value to the department.  Gaston College would like to utilize our inventory of old Tasers (60 total) for training purposes for basic law enforcement students attending Gaston College.  The surplus Tasers will be painted blue and rendered completely inoperable so that the student is able to carry one on their training duty belt to be used as a more realistic simulated Use of Force option during practical training events.  Releasing the X26P Tasers to Gaston College does NOT pose any type of hazard to the public.
