BACKGROUND
The Sheriff’s Office was awarded $140,000.00 to continue the Domestic Violence Unit, which includes salary and partial benefits for two Domestic Violence Deputies. The DV Deputies coordinate all Sheriff’s Office DV Unit activities: evictions, arrests on warrants, removing children/weapons from unsafe homes, hand delivering 50B copies to schools/day cares, mental commitments, etc.
North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission administers the state’s federal grants dedicated to domestic violence victim services through Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grants. These grants require a 25% match.
The 25% match will be met through partial Court Advocate salary and fringes. Year 2 grant period of performance: 10/1/24-9/30/25.
