BACKGROUND
The Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health Division was awarded Federal Grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the Environmental Health Healthy Wells Project. This grant is for five years and the amount of funding for each year is $140,000, with a grant total of $700,000. The grant is the second five-year Healthy Wells grant awarded to Environmental Health from the CDC. This Healthy Wells grant will strengthen Environmental Health capacity for detecting, preventing, and controlling environmental Health hazards through data-driven and evidence-based approaches. The funds will be used to establish a new employee position for a health data analyst to assist with interpreting private well water sample results and allow mapping areas of concern. The position will cease when the grant is completed. The funds will also be used to contract with UNC Charlotte to assist with development of a web-based detection for groundwater quality. These are non-County funds.
