BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Increase grant revenues and program supplies by $5,769.  Transfer required match of $5,769 from Parks & Recreation Operating account to the program supplies. Grant funds will offset County expenses that were used for the Cotton Ginning Days Festival.

BACKGROUND

The 36th annual Cotton Ginning Days Festival was held on October 13-15, 2023. The festival was sponsored by the Gaston Agricultural, Mechanical, and Textile Restoration Association (also known as GAMTRA) and Gaston County Parks and Recreation. The event featured an engine show, a fully operational cotton gin, 1890’s Historic Village, crafts, food, and children’s activities. The festival was created to celebrate and commemorate the history of the textile industry in Gaston County. Cotton Ginning Days was selected as a Local Legacy by the United States Library of Congress in 2000.
