BACKGROUND

Gaston County leased the N.C. Orthopedic Hospital on New Hope Road in Gastonia from the State of North Carolina in 1979 for a term of 75 years.  The County utilized the campus for various County functions and also shared some office space with State agencies.  The County subleased the property to the predecessor of Partners Behavioral Health after the County Department of Social Services relocated its offices in downtown Gastonia.  It is hoped that the acquisition of the property by the County and the subsequent transfer of a portion of the property to Partners will ensure that the administrative offices of Partners will remain on the campus.  The transfer is authorized by N.C.Gen.Stat.§ 160A-274.
