BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Increase Donation revenues by $1,950 and appropriate $1,000 into Furn/Equip<$5,000 and $950 into Support Canine account.

BACKGROUND

GEMS has received donations totaling $1,950; $300 of the funds were donated by Dr. Andrew Matthews in Memory of Lt. Melanie Massagee and her love of dogs and the GEMS therapy dog program.

- GEMS received $1,450 from a local dental office and $200 from a local restaurant.

A portion of the funds ($950) will be used to purchase therapy dog equipment such as harnesses, bedding, and other needed supplies.  GEMS has a highly successful program that has been published in EMS World and EMS International; the funds will allow the therapy dog to be more available to public safety personnel around the county.  The remaining $1,000 will be used to purchase a projector for GEMS training room.  The department provides four weeks of in-house training for new employees as well as annual training for existing employees and a projector is needed for continuing education.
