BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Appropriate $155,000 grant for George Poston Park upgrades and amenities.

BACKGROUND

George Poston Park is a 328 acre park which opened to the public in 2001.  The park property was gifted to Gaston County by Mrs. Edith Poston.  In addition to park property gift, Mrs. Poston provided funds for upgrades and improvement projects at George Poston Park in her will.  These funds are administered by the Community Foundation of Gaston County and the Foundation must approve all projects to be completed with the funds.  At their September 18 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board unanimously approved a request for $155,000 from George Poston Park funds to be used for construction of an asphalt pump track, batting cages, and upgrades to athletic field backstops.  Additional funding for the asphalt pump track was also approved by the Travel and Tourism Advisory Board at their October meeting.
