BACKGROUND
The North Carolina Department of Transportation - Public Transportation Division affords each community transportation system the opportunity to apply for administrative, operating, and capital grant funding. The approved funding is to cover administrative salaries, administrative costs, operating costs, and capital projects. For FY28, Gaston County is only requesting administrative grant funding in the amount of $242,319 which includes a local match of $36,348. This grant funding is for the period of July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028.
Historically, this grant application has been brought before the Board of Commissioners for two reasons. First, doing so fulfills the public hearing requirement and provides an opportunity for the public to speak in support of or opposition to the project before the application is submitted. Second, the Board of Commissioners must approve the required 15% match prior to the submission of the application
Approval of the Board Action authorizes the County Manager to submit the application and, if the award is granted, enter into an agreement with the NCDOT and provide the necessary assurances and certifications, including the required match.
