BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Increase department revenues by $2,050 and appropriate $2,050 into Furn/Equip <5K account.

BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Police Department received a donation from the Lake Wylie Marine Commission in the amount of $2,050.  The donation was made for the purpose of purchasing a new sonar unit for the Marine Enforcement Unit.

Gaston County Police plan to purchase a Lowrance HDS-9 PRO model sonar.  This sonar is a side scan, multi-image sonar with high resolution. The new sonar will be used on the Work Skiff patrol boat which is the department’s primary boat for Lake Wylie.  Sonar is used by the Marine Enforcement Unit to locate objects under water such as vehicles, bodies, or other items of interest in the furtherance of law enforcement related investigations.

The Gaston County Police Department has operated a lake patrol boat on Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake since 2003 for the protection of our county waterways.
