BACKGROUND
The Gastonia Adult Daycare (ADC) was established in 1984, serving adults above 18 years old living with a disability requiring supervision and some assistance, but not requiring skilled nursing care. Originally located in the former Orthopedic Hospital, ADC moved to its current location in 2004 at 900 Roberts Dr. on the Orthopedic campus, which was built in 1950. The Tindale Oliver ADA Transition Study performed in 2017 identified needed repairs to this facility involving safety and barriers to programs. This comprehensive ADA renovation addresses exterior drainage issues and an interior concrete slab, repairs to the exterior patio area, handicap accessible parking, and reconfiguring the restrooms to be ADA compliant.
Gaston County Public Works contracted with Biloba Architecture to provide design and bid services for the renovation of the facility. The project was publicly advertised, and bids were received and publicly opened on February 13, 2024. A total of four (4) bidders submitted proposals. Hostetter and Son Construction, Inc. submitted the apparent low bid in the amount of $668,370. Hostetter and Son Construction, Inc. has identified 11% HUB/MWBE participation for this project. Staff has reviewed the bid and found it to be a responsive and responsible bid.
