BACKGROUND

Under the statutorily required State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), the Office of Justice Programs makes payments to eligible units of local government that incur correctional officer salary costs for incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens with at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions for violations of state or local law and incarcerated for at least 4 consecutive days during a specific 12-month reporting period. The reporting period for the FY 2022 program is July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021. SCAAP funds must be used for correctional purposes only.
