BACKGROUND
The Gaston County IT Data Center, located in the basement of the Gaston County Administration Building, needs to be consolidated and moved into a smaller space next to the current data center, which houses an air handling unit (AHU). The current data center does not have adequate cooling for the servers and the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) has reached its life expectancy, which provides backup power in the event of an outage. The racks that house the servers and power distribution units (PDU) will be modernized and a new UPS will be installed. Gaston County IT plans to remove the AHU and install new self-contained cooling racks and power protection system.
Gaston County Public Works contracted with Stewart Cooper Newell Architects to provide design and bid services for the relocation of the data center. The project was publicly advertised, and two (2) bids were received on August 13, 2024. The project was readvertised for ten (10) days and a total of two (2) bidders submitted proposals. AVM Contractors, LLC submitted the apparent low, responsive, responsible bid of $920,612. AVM Contractors, LLC has identified 10% HUB/MWBE participation for this project.
