BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Solid Waste Division has been looking to expand recycling sites throughout the County due to the population increase. The Crowder’s Creek Recycling Center located at 1120 CP Groves Rd. is one of the sites requiring expansion. Gaston County has come to an agreement with the owners of the neighboring parcel (PID 146143), the heirs of Charles Parham, to purchase 7.67 acres in the amount of $90,000. Staff hired Miles Hamrick to perform an appraisal in January 2022 which resulted in no major discrepancy in the requested sales amount. A Phase 1 environmental site assessment was performed by Terracon to ensure the property is available for intended use. Staff confirmed that the property is already zoned correctly with no restrictions for intended use. Currently, a schematic site plan is in progress with HDR Engineering Consultants.

Approval of this Board Action authorizes the County Attorney to draft any required documents necessary for the transfer of title and authorizes the County Manager, or her designee, to execute said documents.
