BACKGROUND

On February 10, 2015, the BOC approved the bid award for Basic Life Support ambulances (Resolution 2015-044) and on January 26, 2016, that bid award was extended (Resolution 2016-005).  These bids were awarded to Northwestern Emergency Vehicles and specified Mercedes Sprinter Chassis for the ambulance upfit.  Based on our difficulties with Mercedes Sprinter chassis and our fleet and ongoing escalating maintenance costs, it is desirable to change to the Ford Transit HD350 chassis. Since bids were not received for the Ford Transit, we would like to operate off of the HGAC group purchasing program contract (AM10-14) which Northwestern Emergency Vehicles is a part of.  This chassis change will have little effect on the ambulance upfit, as the van chassis are quite similar.  The cost of the completed ambulances will be equal to or slightly less than the original bid price (not higher).  However it should be noted that we plan to buy extended warranties on the Ford chassis out of present year appropriated funds.  The extended warranties were not included in the original bid specs because they were not available on the Mercedes Sprinters chassis at that time.
