BACKGROUND

Gaston County will receive $1,058,090 in Home and Community Block Grant funds for FY 2016-2017 to provide support services to older adults.  There is a Gaston County Commission appointed Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee whose responsibility it is to approve the recommended use of these funds.  The Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee met on March 8, 2016 to approve the best use of these funds.  The Gaston County Health and Human Services Board will review the plan on June 23, 2016 for recommending approval of this funding plan.

The Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee and the Gaston County Health and Human Services Board request approval of the FY2016-2017 funding plan, which allocates funds as follows: In-Home Aide- $697,528,  Congregate Nutrition- $112,770, Home Delivered Meals- $182,481, and Transportation- $65,311.  The funding of this allocation, as well as the County’s requirements, is included in the Department of Health and Human Services FY2016-2017 Proposed Budget.  (Note: This allocation is an increase of $14,945 from FY2015-2016.)  In the event the grant funds expire, the County shall not assume budgetary responsibility for the program or any personnel associated with the program.
