BACKGROUND

The Comprehensive Control Act of 1984 and the Anti-Drug Act of 1986 provide for the distribution among participating law enforcement agencies of assets forfeited in connection with drug related arrests. The above laws prohibit the use of such funds to reduce local funds budgeted for law enforcement programs.

The Allocation of Drug Asset Forfeiture Funds (11,815) will be appropriated from the Drug Asset Forfeiture - Federal Controlled Substance account received during the Fiscal Year 2024 to purchase a Detention Facility Narcotics K-9.

Due to the influx of contraband and illegal narcotics coming into the facility, the purchase of this K-9 will assist officers in detecting these illegal substances. The K-9 will be able to detect illegal narcotics to include Fentanyl, which is a deadly substance that is dangerous to inmates and detention facility staff.
