BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Board of Commissioners authorized staff to advertise for architectural firms to provide professional design services for the design and renovation of the new Animal Care and Control facility located at 1491 Business Park Court, Gastonia, NC.  Consistent with NCGS 143-64.31, Public Works’ staff developed a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) packet in early October, 2015.  The RFQ was publicly advertised beginning Sunday, October 11, 2015.  Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) submittals were received from four (4) interested architectural firms on Friday, October 30, 2015.

After reviewing the SOQ’s submitted, the review committee recommends the firm of Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects as the architectural firm to design the new Gaston County Animal Care and Control facility.  Approval of this Board Action accepts the recommendation of Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects as the designer of record.  Further, approval of this Board Action authorizes the County Attorney to draft the necessary contract documents and authorizes the County Manager to execute said contracts for design related purposes.
