BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Appropriate $10,000 from fund balance to cover the costs for street-level man-holes to be relocated.

BACKGROUND

In December 2012 - January 2013, Gaston County contracted with RST of Shelby N.C. to install a fiber optic network from the Health Department on Hudson Blvd. to the Summit Health facility on Summit Crossing Place. This fiber optic network runs parallel on the east side of New Hope Road from Garrison Blvd. to Court Drive, north of Interstate 85. The North Carolina Department of Transportation is now in a project to widen New Hope Road from Burtonwood Drive to Garrison Blvd., which will require Gaston County to move four existing manholes. The estimated cost of moving these manholes from NCI of Buford, Georgia is at a cost of "not to exceed $10,000". We need the 4 manholes, and the cabling contained therein, to be relocated or we risk damage to our cabling and/or this access being paved over.
