BACKGROUND
The Gaston County Board of Commissioners approved funding in the FY 20-21 budget to complete ADA improvements at various County facilities. Due to the age and continued usage of these facilities, the buildings are in disrepair and do not meet current accessibility requirements. Tindale Oliver previously conducted an in-depth study of various County facilities and provided ADA remediation recommendations to Gaston County. Based on the results of that study, McClure Nicholson Montgomery Architects designed the needed repairs and prepared the bid documents for public bidding purposes. The project was publicly advertised on February 13, 2022, and a bid opening was held on March 10, 2022. Public Works did not receive a sufficient number of bids to open bids on this date. The project was re-advertised on March 13th with a bid opening held on March 29, 2022, with the following results:
* Fairwood Construction $1,017,995
* T.C. Strickland Construction $ 811,800
Based on the bids received, this Board Action deems T.C. Strickland Construction Co., Inc., as the contractor submitting the lowest, responsible, responsive bid. Approval of this Board Action formally selects T.C. Strickland Construction Company, Inc. to perform the repair work associated with the project, directs the County Attorney to draft all necessary contract documents, and authorizes the County Manager, or her designee, to execute said documents for $811,800.00. T.C. Strickland Co., Inc. has committed to using 0% HUB/MWBE participation on this project.
