BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Solid Waste and Recycling Division is committed to providing a safe, economical, and environmentally sensitive waste disposal facility for the citizens and businesses of Gaston County that meets or exceeds all applicable State and/or Federal regulations.  Solid Waste and Recycling Division staff have worked to document capital, operating, and equipment needs and budget requests.  During this process, the Solid Waste Division submitted a request to purchase new equipment during FY25.  Staff determined that an additional roll-off truck was a priority to help service the seven convenience sites throughout Gaston County.  The bid for a new roll off truck was publicly advertised in the Charlotte Observer, HUBSCO, and the Gaston County website.  Sealed bids were publicly opened on March 11, 2025.  Carolina Environmental Systems, Inc. provided the only sealed bid at a cost of $252,170.00.  The Solid Waste and Recycling Division has funds available in the current fiscal year operating budget for this equipment purchase.  No additional appropriation of funds is required.
