BACKGROUND

The Board of Commissioners, during its Regular Meeting of 7/28/2016, approved the appropriation of $120k from fund balance for the procurement of body armor systems (plate carriers and/or soft body armor) for the Gaston County Police Department, Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services and AMENDED the Board Action, to acknowledge that Anderson D. Warlick and the Parkdale Mills Family have pledged $82k for vests for County Law Enforcement.  Premier Body Armor is the preferred vendor. The donation will be brought before the Board for formal acceptance upon receipt (a bid spec will be prepared for the procurement of the Law Enforcement vests). The Board further approved approximately $21,600 for GEMS body armor vests, to be purchased with County funds and approved an additional $20k each for the County Police, Sheriff and GEMS for major equipment purchases, to be approved by the BOC prior to appropriation.
