BACKGROUND

The Dallas Police Department, contacted Gaston County, requesting 15 out-of-service laptops for in their vehicles. We have sold other items deemed surplus to local municipalities to help them acquire resources that would otherwise be cost prohibitive for them. This is a simple way to help them, while disposing of equipment that is no longer required by Gaston County. Due to the sensitive information that could be on these machines, they have been wiped with a military-approved tool.

Staff is requesting the Board of Commissioners to Declare the property surplus and authorize County staff to sell 20 used, surplus public safety laptops to the Dallas Police Department for $1, pursuant to NCGS 160A-274. There are no warranties or support included (as-is, but known working machines with only the Windows Operating System installed). Since they are used and carry no warranty, we are conveying 5 more devices than requested to ensure they will have spare parts.
