BACKGROUND
GEMS applied for and received Phase 4 Provider Relief Funds (PRF). GEMS proposes to allocate the funds within the accepted parameters for Mitigation and Prevention initiatives by purchasing field shelters, shelter trailer, and tow vehicle. The resources will be used by collaborating with Public Health, Social Services, and Hope United Survivor Network to have the ability to rapidly deploy field shelters wherever and whenever needed. For Behavioral Health initiatives, GEMS will purchase a therapy dog and peer support team training. GEMS will team up with first responder agencies for the therapy dog and Metrolina Healthcare Preparedness Coalition for peer support allowing GEMS to better address the behavioral health care needs of local and regional first responders affected by the pandemic. Finally, to address disparities in Public Health Outcomes, GEMS will purchase a wheelchair/transport van; GEMS already helps ACCESS personnel by transporting large and COVID positive patients to dialysis appointments. This van would allow us to have a resource for use at all times. All of these initiatives are outlined on the attached explanation page (Phase 4 - Projects).
These initiatives will have both an immediate and lasting impact on the Gaston County community at large.
