BACKGROUND

This grant award will fund a transitional housing program that will provide stable and secure housing to women who are victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault who want to work towards self-sufficiency.  The service area will be all of Gaston County (pop. 214,005) with priority consideration given to late-life victims (age 50+) for whom there are no existing, viable, transitional housing options in the county. For older women who do not have dependent children, who are not disabled, and who do not have substance abuse and/or mental health issues, there is virtually no financial assistance or supportive housing available.   The program expects to serve 45 women during the three-year grant period.
