BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Police Department requests that Pax, a nine (9) year old German Shepherd be declared as surplus and removed from Gaston County’s inventory as per North Carolina General Statute 160A-266 (C).  K-9 Pax is failing to perform his duties as a member of the K-9 team in handler protection, building searches, criminal apprehension, narcotics detection, and tracking due to age and loss of stamina.  It is recommended that K-9 Pax be retired at this point due to the safety of the K-9 and its handler.
