BACKGROUND
The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a three-year grant from the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission in the amount of $99,999.78 to support partial salaries for two Domestic Violence Deputies in the Sheriff's Office.
The Domestic Violence Unit provides a comprehensive 24/7 response to domestic violence and sexual assault victims, collaborating with nine agencies to serve protective orders, warrants, and summons. Deputies and advocates offer immediate support, court assistance, and connections to resources, ensuring victims’ safety and reducing harm.
There is a 25% required match, which is supported by partial salary and health insurance from a Criminal Court Advocate. Year one match requirement: $33,333.26.
Total grant period of performance: 10/1/25 - 9/30/28. Year one period of performance: 10/1/25 - 9/30/26.
Award and match amounts for grant years two and three have not been announced yet and cannot be included in this Board Action.
