BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Increases funding available for Gaston County Senior Center programming and equipment.

BACKGROUND POLICY IMPACT

The Gaston County Senior Center offers programming and facilities for older adults. Senior Center amenities include a weight room, library, computer room, open space for classes and activities, and a craft room.   With the COVID19 pandemic, Senior Center programming has been very limited.  We are unable to offer indoor exercise classes and access to the Senior Center weight/fitness room at this time.  CARES funding from the Centralina Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging will be used to provide an outdoor covered space to hold exercise and dance classes and other activities.  CARES funding will also be used to provide outdoor tables, hand sanitizer stations, computer tablets for senior use, and activity bags for seniors who are homebound.
