BACKGROUND
The Board of Commissioners, meeting in Special Session on July 14, 2026, approved additional one-time funding in the amount of $5,000,000 to Gaston County Schools as follows:
• $2,113,000 for additional teacher supplements.
• $1,042,000 for state increase in employee compensation for locally-funded positions.
• $1,570,000 for additional employer contributions for employee benefits required by the state.
• $275,000 for expenses necessary for the continued operation of W.B. Beam Intermediate School.
The County Manager was authorized to make any budget amendments and account entries necessary to implement these allocations.
A one-time, supplemental appropriation may not be construed as a waiver of the County's rights under GS 115C-429(d).
