BACKGROUND

Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) Mobile Integrated Health is granting GEMS $195,597 (Year 1, 8/1/26 - 6/30/27) and $104,403 (Year 2, 7/1/27 - 10/30/27).  The intention is to fund 4 EMT Basic positions to support implementation and operation of a dedicated Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) operating within the Gaston County Emergency Medical Services (GEMS). The project is designed to improve behavioral health crisis response, strengthen continuity of care, reduce unnecessary emergency department utilization, and improve access to community-based behavioral health resources throughout Gaston County.
