BACKGROUND

The Sheriff’s Office received a grant in the 2021-2022 North Carolina budget for the purchase of a SWAT vehicle. This vehicle will aid law enforcement with ballistic and tactical protection. Sole source approval is requested pursuant to NCGS §143-129(e)(6) due to the vehicle being available from only once source. The Custom-Armored Pit-Bull X SWAT Truck is a trademark product of Alpine Armoring Inc. and the only known supplier that can fulfill this requirement. There is no other manufacturer that can produce a vehicle equivalent to this truck’s protection level, capabilities, maintenance, warranty, and after-sales items other than Alpine Armoring. Approval of this Board Action authorizes staff to proceed with the sole source purchase from Alpine Armoring, Inc.
