BUDGET IMPACTbudget
No net budget impact / no additional County funds appropriated.
BACKGROUND
NC G.S. 121-5(b) and 132-3 provide that the County may destroy public records only with the consent of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR). The State Archives of North Carolina is the division of DNCR charged with administering a records management program. This schedule is the primary way the State Archives of North Carolina gives its consent, and local approval is necessary to allow the Register of Deeds Office to comply.
POLICY IMPACT
This Resolution will formalize the ability for the Register of Deeds to destroy certain public records once their administrative value ends.
