BACKGROUND

 

The Gaston County Police Department (GCPD) has been investigating Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) crimes for several years. Each year, there has been a rise in the number and severity of ICAC cases. During 2021, the GCPD assigned a detective to the Homeland Security Investigations ICAC Taskforce and became very aware of the increase in ICAC and the urgent need to address these crimes in a proactive manner. The current GCPD technology is outdated and does not provide access to all of the available data. The improved technology and training that this funding will provide will result in a more productive and efficient initiative to respond to these crimes against children.
