BACKGROUND

This 21st Century Community Learning Center supports students attending H.H. Beam, Pleasant Ridge, and Lingerfeldt Elementary Schools. H.H. Beam is in the second year of a 3-year grant, and Pleasant Ridge is in year 3. The program provides 150 slots at H.H. Beam in an after school program for K-5 students and 150 slots for Pleasant Ridge/Lingerfeldt 3-5 students. The program addresses three specific areas of need that were identified through multiple data sources as critical elements to support students and their families: 1) academic performance in the classroom and EOG/K-2 assessment performance; 2) a character education program to help students make better choices; and 3) family services that will offer parents educational and personal development opportunities that will assist them in supporting their children's academic and social development.
