BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Increase revenue and expense by $2,477,622.00 in the Capital Improvement Fund via a transfer from the Community Investment Fund.

BACKGROUND
The current Gaston County Fleet Services facility, located on Osceola Street, is no longer adequate for the growing number of vehicles requiring service. Fleet Services maintains in excess of 700 County vehicles and small equipment. The current facility and parking lot do not have enough space to provide necessary storage or to facilitate a proper inbound/outbound workflow. Gaston County purchased the property formerly known as Gashouse Garage at 323 N. Avon St. and the adjacent vacant parcel to expand Fleet Services to better serve the County's growing fleet maintenance needs. Approved in budget FY22 - $1.8m for building purchase, FY23- $3m for building renovations, and FY24- $1m for building renovations. This appropriation of $2,477,622 (along with small transfers within Public Works existing capital budget) will fund the difference between budgeted costs and the construction contract. Additional funds are needed due to the scope of the project, increase expenses of materials, labor, etc. Gaston County contracted with ADW Architects (ADW) to provide design, bid, and construction administration services for the renovation and expansion of the facility.
