BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $140,000.00 to continue the Domestic Violence Unit, which includes salary and partial benefit funding for two Domestic Violence Deputies. The DV Deputies coordinate all Sheriff's Office DV Unit activities: evictions, arresting on warrants, removing children/weapons from unsafe homes, hand delivering 50B copies to schools/day cares, mental commitments, etc.

The North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission administers the state’s federal grants dedicated to domestic violence victim services through Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grants. These grants require a 25% match.

The 25% match will be met through partial DV Deputy salaries and fringes and partial Court Advocate salary. Grant period of performance: 10/1/24 - 9/30/25.
