BACKGROUND
The Gaston County Public Works and Building and Development Services Departments worked together to develop and submit an application for grant funding through the Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program. The purpose of the project is to encourage pedestrian movement and safe accessibility by constructing approximately 2,300 linear feet of sidewalk infrastructure to connect Creekside Manufactured Home Park and Tryon Elementary School. Additionally, such an alternative mode of travel may also contribute to a reduction of vehicle mileage and emissions in terms of travel decisions that originate from within the corridor.
Approval of this Board Action endorses the application and recognizes Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization's Resolution Endorsing FY 22 Candidate CMAQ Project Proposals.
Approval of this Board Action accepts the STIP# BL-0033 grant award in the amount of $1,348,618 and appropriates the grant funding for the construction of sidewalk infrastructure along Tryon Courthouse Road to improve pedestrian safety, mobility, and reduce vehicle emissions. Additionally, approval of the Board Action authorizes the County Manager, or her designee, to execute said documents on behalf of Gaston County, and appropriates funding for expenditure purposes.
