BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT
Appropriate $141,925 from Fund Balance to the Poston Park Security Cameras Account.
BACKGROUND
George Poston Park is Gaston County’s largest park and the park is heavily used by the public. Park amenities include eight athletic fields, a dog park, two playgrounds, a pump track, paved river front trails, and thirteen miles of natural surface trails. While enjoying park amenities, visitors can be miles away from their cars and vehicular break-ins are common at Poston Park. Vandalism, including damages to restrooms, athletic fields, and park signs is also a problem at Poston Park. To minimize break-ins and vandalism, funds are requested to purchase seventeen cameras to be located throughout Poston Park. The camera project includes two license plate reader cameras. Staff will have immediate access to camera footage and will convey info to public safety officials as requested. Approval of this Board Action appropriates funds and authorizes staff to enter into an installation contract with Sharp Business Systems for the purchase of these cameras.
